  1. Dorothea Friederike Christine HANSEN (my German 3rd great-grandmother):
Laura, this lady may be my grandmother’s sister, Ricki. The name I have for her is Christine Fredricke (I’m never sure about this spelling) Hansen, born 6 Sept 1884 in Chicago, I think. I don’t have a death date for her. Her parents were Fredrick Valentin Hansen and Anna Christine Hansen. (could be they were cousins somehow.) Married to John Bahr. I have a pic of her taken somewhere between 1945-50. If you think this might be her I’d be happy to send you the pic – of her and her sisters. Aunt Ricki had a sister whose middle name was Dorothea. Not unusual for them to use a name twice in a different position. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    • Janet, thank you for sharing this information and for your generous offer to share photos – my favorite thing ever! But alas, it doesn’t sound like we have a match. My Dorothea Friederike Christine Hansen was born in Germany about 1811 and died there 17 Apr 1867.

      • LOL you’re right! We never know when or where those connections may happen, do we? Dorothea hailed from Schleswig-Holstein, but the two ladies could be distant cousins if we go back far enough. I’ll stay tuned!

      • I believe Nordstrand was considered part of Schleswig Holstein. I don’t have any further info, back any farther. I love your ancestor’s name. Dorothea Friederika Christine. Some of those names were so beautiful. My grandfather’s mother was Anna Magdalena. They named a daughter Magdalena but called her Lena. How awful!!!! But they didn’t ask me. LOL!!
        Keep digging.
