1894 Obituaries: April 5

The following death notices appeared on page six of the April 5, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News:

“ANDERSON-EDDIE, beloved son of John and Minnie Anderson, at 1008 S. Wood-st., aged 3 years and 9 months. Funeral Friday at 10 o’clock, carriages to Mount Olivet.”

“ARNESON-At his parents’ residence, 67 N. Center-av., April 4, 1894, HAROLD C., beloved son of Cornelius and Bertha Arneson, aged 17 years and 6 months. Funeral from parents’ residence Sunday, at 1 o’clock, to Christ English Evangelical Lutheran church, thence by carriages to Graceland.”

“CONNELLY-Tuesday evening, at her residence, 936 36th-st., MARY, beloved wife of John Connelly, aged 35 years. Funeral Friday, 10 a.m., by cars to Mount Olivet. Syracuse, Cincinnati and St. Louis papers please copy.”

“DAILEY-At 3031 Main-st., April 3, 1894, KATIE, beloved daughter of Mrs. Dailey. Funeral from mother’s residence Saturday, April 7, to St. Bridget’s church, thence by carriages to Mount Olivet.”

“DAVERN-April 6, 1894, JOHN WILLIAM and MARY AGNES, beloved son and daughter of Jeremiah and Maggie Davern (nee Ryan), aged 4 years, 7 months and 17 days and 2 years 2 months and 20 days. Funeral to-morrow, April 6, from parents’ residence, 1848 N. Western-av., to Calvary.”

“GRIFFIN-At 954 51st-st., April 4, 1894, ROSAMA, beloved daughter of Bartholomew and Rosama Griffin (nee Brennan), aged 16 months. Funeral Friday at 10 a.m., from parents’ residence, by carriages to Calvary.”

“HIGGINS-At her residence, 558 S. Jefferson-st., JOHANNA, beloved mother of Michael J. Higgins and Mrs. J. McDermott. Funeral Saturday, April 7, at 9:30 a.m., to Holy Family church, where solemn high mass will be celebrated, thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“HOUSE-JAMES EDWARD, beloved and only son of Mrs. House (nee McCashin), aged 4 years 6 months and 25 days. Funeral from 286 W. Lake-st., Friday, 10 a.m.”

“IVINS-ALICE, beloved wife of John Ivins, aged 61 years, at residence, 196 Aberdeen-st. Funeral Friday, 7:45 a.m., to C. & A. depot. Interment Dwight Ill. Washington D.C., and Frankfurt, Ky., papers please copy.”

“LAPLANT-April 4, 1894, ANASTASIA, beloved wife of Anthony Laplant and beloved mother of Mrs. Ida Morissette and Mrs. Carrie Lyonnais. Funeral from her daughter’s residence, 1084 Grenshaw-st., Saturday, April 7, to Notre Dame church, where high mass will be celebrated at 9 o’clock, thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“SCHMEDTGEN-At San Diego, Cal., March 21, 1894, BERTHA, wife of Herman A. Schmedtgen, aged 56 years. Funeral Friday, April 6, at 1 o’clock from late residence, Western-av., Rogers Park. Burial at Rose Hill cemetery.”

“SMITH-April 4, MARY S., widow of the late Gustavus T. Smith, aged 70 years. Funeral at Union Ridge cemetery Saturday, 10 o’clock a.m., from late residence, 350 Marshfield-av. No flowers.”

“WALKER-CLIFFORD CHARLES, beloved son of John and Margaret Walker (nee Conroy), aged 15 months. Funeral from parents’ residence, 984 31st-st, Friday, March [sic] 6, at 9 a.m., by carriages to Northwestern depot, thence by cars to Waukegan.”
