Was He Robbed?

“Tarried and Lost His Money.

James McNulty of 6646 Cottage Grove avenue deposited $800 in the Hibernian bank yesterday. He intended depositing $175 more but on second thought concluded he would need that amount in his business.

On his way home he became acquainted with Lida Clifford. When McNulty again started home, two hours later, he did not have sufficient money to pay car fare and accused the Clifford woman of robbing him. She denied having taken the money but Officers Keough and McCarthy arrested her.”

The article above appeared on the front page of the Chicago Daily News May 5, 1894.

Are James McNulty, Lida Clifford, Chicago Police Officer Keough and/or McCarthy in your family tree? If so, I hope you’ll share your connections with my readers and me!
