The following article appeared on the front page of the May 15, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News:

Alleged Assailant of Joe Lawler.

The case of Frank McMahon, alias E. J. Mackin, who is suspected of being one of the trio who robbed the house of Joe Lawler two weeks ago, will be tried by Justice Foster May 17. He was arraigned this morning but Mr. Lawler could not appear.”
