In October I visited Calvary Cemetery in Evanston Illinois.

It was my first trip to the predominantly Irish Catholic cemetery which was consecrated in 1859.

It was also the first time I saw a bas-relief of the deceased on a headstone.

Meet Grace O’Dwyer Ryan who was born in Ireland in 1824. Grace died in 1909.

Grace has been added to the 17,993 Calvary memorials on Find A Grave.

As of this writing, only 36% of those memorials have headstone photographs.

I have ancestors buried there – some of whom were reinterred from the Old Cemetery in Chicago. Thank you for adding the obit for O. Martin Eaton to find a grave.

This was my first visit to Calvary. It’s such a lovely [yet terribly under-photographed] cemetery right on the lakefront.

I’m glad my addition to Find A Grave was helpful to you.
