1894 Obituaries: March 20

From the March 20, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News, page 1:

“Death of C. C.  Collins

The Chicago Merchant Passes Away at Ponchatoula, La.

Ponchatoula, La., March 20-C.C. Collins, a prominent merchant of Chicago and owner of the Central Sugar mill and a farm near here, died here this morning at 2 o’clock at the age of 46. His body will be embalmed and shipped to Chicago to-morrow evening.”

From the March 20, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News, page 6:

“O’ROURKE-At 5200 Morgan-st., March 20, 1894, JULIA, beloved daughter of Cathrine and the late George O’Rourke, aged 16 years 8 months and 14 days. Funeral Thursday, March 22, at 10 a.m., from parents’ residence to the Church of the Visitation, thence to depot, 49th and Halsted-sts., and by car to Mount Olivet.”

“REDMAN-March 18, 1894, JENNIE REDMAN, aged 44 years. Funeral from her late residence, 108 N. Market-st., Wednesday, March 21, at 1 o’clock, by carriages to Rose Hill.”

From the March 20, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News, page 9:

“ALLEN-Monday, March 19, JENNIE, beloved daughter of John H. and the late Helena Allen, aged 10 years. Funeral Thursday morning, from late residence, 6435 Sheridan-av., burial at Kenosha, Wis., via 11:30 C. & N.W. railway.”

“BURLINGAME-March 18, 1894, MARY, wife of the late Hiram Burlingame. Funeral Wednesday at 1 p.m., to Graceland.”

“DUDLEY-March 19, 1894, SARAH, beloved mother of Charley, John, Robert, Hugh, William and Sarah Dudley, aged 60 years. Funeral Wednesday, at 10 a.m., from her late residence, 270 Hickory-st., to the Immaculate Conception church, thence by carriages to the C. & N.W. depot to Calvary cemetery.”

“ELWOOD-March 19, 1894, NELLIE ELWOOD, aged 21 years, sister to Belle Elwood and Mrs. Edward Walsh. Funeral Wednesday at 9 a.m. from her sister’s residence, 3937 Hart-av., to St. Agnus’ church, where high mass will be celebrated, thence by cars to Calvary via C., M. & St. P. R.R.”

“FRY-Sunday, March 18, NELLY, beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fry. Funeral Wednesday, March 21, from late residence, 187 W. 18th-st., with carriages to Forest Home at 11 o’clock.”

“HRONEK-March 19, OTTO, beloved son of Anton and Caroline Hronek, aged 12 years and 6 months. Funeral Thursday morning from parents’ residence, 3563 (?) Portland-av., to Bohemian cemetery.”

“IHLSENG-March 19, CHRISTOPHER, beloved son of Christian and the late Hattie Ihlseng, aged 6 months and 2 days. Funeral Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p.m., from aunt’s residence, 264 N. May-st., to Graceland.”

“JEVNE-Tuesday, March 20, ELIZABETH, beloved wife of Charles G. Jevne, aged 32 years. Funeral Thursday, March 22, at 2 p.m., from her late residence, 4528 St. Lawrence-av., to Oakwoods cemetery.”

“KENNEDY-March 19, 1894, at the residence of her sister, Mrs. H. C. Laughlin, 490 Kenmore-av., Argyle Park, Mrs. MARIA KENNEDY. Funeral Wednesday morning at 10:30 by carriages to Calvary.”

“KLAWANS-RACHEL LENA, mother of William, Luis, David and George Klawans, and Mrs. S. Schutz. Funeral from her daughter’s residence, 456 Potomac-av., near Washtenaw-av., to Waldheim, Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. sharp.”

“NORMAN-ANN, beloved wife of William Norman and daughter of Joseph Edgar, at residence, 155 N. Albany-av., aged 51 years. Funeral Wednesday, March 21, to St. Mathew’s church, 9 a.m., thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“QUINN-At 642 46th-st., Monday, March 19, Mrs. John Quinn (nee Hattie Martin), born in County Sligo, Ireland, aged 30 years. Funeral Wednesday, March 21, at 9:30 a.m., from above number to St. Gabriel’s church, thence by carriages to Mount Olivet.”

“SCHENKALOWSKI-March 19, 1894, ROSIE, beloved wife of Louis Schenkalowski and sister of Joseph and Frank Clegg. Funeral Wednesday a.m. from her brother’s residence, 4550 State-st., to St. Elizabeth’s church, thence by carriages to Mount Olive.”

“SULLIVAN-BRIDGET, wife of the late James D. Sullivan. Funeral Wednesday from her late residence, 210 DeKoven-st., at 9:30 a.m., to Jesuit church, where high mass will be celebrated, thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“SULLIVAN-March 20, 1894, at residence of his sister, Mrs. Joseph Gallarnav (?), 295 S. Desplaines-st., JOHN SULLIVAN, aged 27 years. Burial at Albion, N.Y., Wednesday, 11 a.m.”

“TINDILL-MARY, beloved daughter of Henry and Mary Tindill (nee Scanlon), aged 6 months and 10 days. Funeral Wednesday, at 1 p.m., from parents’ residence, 109 Mohawk-st., by carriages to Calvary. Hamilton (Canada) papers please copy.”

“VALENTINE-March 18, 1894, ABRAHAM, beloved husband of Charlotta Valentine, aged 78 years and 5 months. Funeral Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p.m., from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Richard Blomgren of 1530 Belmont-av., by carriages to Graceland.”
