The following notices of death were published on page 5 of the Chicago Daily News, June 30, 1894:

“SPILLARD-At Elgin, Ill., June 29, of pneumonia, Mrs. MARGARET SPILLARD. Burial there from St. Mary’s church Monday morning, July 2, the Rev. D. J. Spillard, her oldest son, officiating, assisted by the Very Rev. Mackin and the Rev. Lynde.”

“VAN EVERY-June 28, HUBERT, the beloved husband of Mrs. Annie Van Every (nee Dyslin), aged 33 years. Burial Sunday, July 1, at Forest Home from his late residence, 1629 Carroll-av.”

And from page 6 of the same issue of the Chicago Daily News:

“JOHNSON-HYMAN-Mrs. S. Hyman announces the engagement of her daughter CLARA to Mr. JOSEPH CHARLES JOHNSON of New Haven, Conn., and of her daughter CORA to Mr. EDWARD COHEN of this city. At home at 3631 Forest-av., Sunday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 11.”

“SHAFFER-M’CART-Miss BERNICE, daughter of John McCart, 574 Carroll-av., and Mr. FRANK SHAFFER were married Saturday evening, June 23, at residence of the Rev. Dr. Wallace, 205 Warren-av., at home to friends after June 30, 574 Carroll-av. Lock Haven papers please copy.”

“BRUEN-JOHN JAMES, beloved son of Patrick and Lizzie Bruen (nee Kelly), aged 9 months and 9 days. Funeral from parents’ residence, 3419 S. Wood-st., Sunday, July 1, at 10 o’clock by carriages to Calvary cemetery.”

“CARROLL-At his parents’ residence, 742 37th-st., June 29, 1894, EUGENE, beloved son of Ely and Lizzie Carroll (nee O’Keefe), aged 2 years 11 months and 2 weeks. Funeral Sunday, July 1, by cars to Mount Olivet, from Polk-st. depot. Elgin and Wisconsin papers please copy.”

“CONLEY-June 28, WILLIAM S., beloved husband of Jennie Conley, aged 31 years and 8 months. Funeral Sunday, 10 a.m., from his late residence, 82 S. Oakley-av., to St. Malachy’s church, thence by carriages to Calvary. Members of Aldine lodge No. 129 K. of P. are invited to attend.”

“KELLY-At his residence, 21 Newberry-av., DANIEL P. (stone cutter), beloved husband of Bridget Kelly (nee Hession), aged 64 years. Funeral Sunday, July 1, at 9:30 a.m., to Jesuit church, thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“KOB-NICHOLAS J., beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kob (nee Schodtler), aged 23 years 6 months and 25 days. Funeral Monday, July 2, at 2 p.m., from his home, 277 Woodside-av., to St. Alphonsus’ church, thence to St. Boniface cemetery.”

“MULLEN-June 28, at St. Luke’s hospital, JAMES MULLEN. Funeral Sunday at 10 a.m. from Horan’s undertaking parlors, 18th and Dearborn-sts., thence to Calvary.”

“NOLAN-At 1139 61st-st., June 28, THOMAS, beloved husband of Elizabeth Nolan (nee O’Brien), member of Holy Cross court, No. 176 C.O.F., aged 46 years. Funeral Sunday, July 1, at 9 a.m., by carriages to Mount Olivet.”

“PENNY-SELIA, beloved daughter of Jasper and Katie Penny, died June 28 and will be buried July Forest Home cemetery. Funeral services at 9 o’clock at parents’ residence, 198 Hastings st.”

“SCHULTZE-At 4147 Princeton-av., June 29, THEODORE, beloved son of Theodore and Annie Schultze (nee Acker), aged 12 years and 6 months. Funeral Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., by carriages to Waldheim.”

“TAYHEN-June 29, MICHAEL, beloved husband of Bridget Tayhen, aged 26 years. Member Company C, 7th regiment. Funeral Sunday at 11 a.m., from John Carroll’s undertaking establishment to Holy Name church, thence by C. & N.W. cars to Calvary. Springfield (O.) papers please copy.”

“VAN LOM-ALBERT M.-beloved father of Albert G. and John Van Lom; native of Amsterdam, Holland. Funeral Sunday from 458 W. 15th-st., at 11 a.m. Amsterdam and Haarlem (Holland) papers please copy.”

My transcription above is exactly as the notices appeared on pages 5 and 6 of the June 30, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News with the exception of quotation marks at the beginning and end of each obituary. Abbreviations, capitalizations and references to people, places and things are indicative of the era in which this information was published. When possible, the deceased are also memorialized on Find A Grave.
