The following article, which appeared in the April 12, 1929 issue of the Batavia [Illinois] Herald, gave me some insight into the life of Wesley Lambert Tolf (17 Sep 1894-Dec 1969), a 1st cousin thrice-removed;
“Batavia Bowlers Get in Prize Money at Ottawa Sunday – Frank Thomle and Wesley Tolf, prominent Batavia bowlers, shot into the prize money in the tournament at Ottawa last Sunday, each bowler turning in a total of 640 in the singles, which should give them a fair slice of the prize money. The Batavia bowlers went to the Ottawa tournament along with three teams from Aurora.”
The Batavia Herald mentioned this triumph again in their “20 Years Ago This Week” column which appeared Friday April 15, 1949; “Frank Thomle and Wesley Tolf, shot into the money in the tournament at Ottawa Sunday when each bowler got 640 totals in the singles.”
Way to go Wesley!
I am “bowled” over (heh … see what I did there?)! How cool that you were able to find something about your relative’s hobbies! I’m pretty sure all mine did was shuck corn and snap peas.
