I was horrified when I read the following article on the front page of the October 10, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News:

Chicago Daily News October 10, 1894 pg 1

The pain this poor man must have endured is unimaginable. After being notified of his death, Louis Burdelle’s family may have clung to the hope that he could have died quickly. But the newspaper detailed the agonizing pain he was in before he died.

Isn’t it interesting that we often hear complaints about today’s news being too graphic?
