Ancestors who die between census years can often be difficult to trace.

Perhaps the following obituaries, published on page 6 of the Chicago Daily News on September 18, 1886 will be of some help to genealogists doing research in the Windy City. The names of the deceased (including a dozen children) that appeared on that day include:

John William Ashley, Michael Bates, James Doyle, twins Ellen and Katie Dempsey, Richard Freer, Mary Erin Hogan, George Arthur William Isaacson, Hanora O’Malley Kelly, Cora Lasman, Alfred M Morris, Mrs Peter Olson, Mary Quinn, Katie Rodgers, Harry Rust, Margaret Seipp, John Sheedy, Thomas Volkl, Annie Ward, Ralph Samuel Wood, and Malvina Zweigert.

Thanks Amy! One of the reasons I love genealogy is so many researchers believe in paying it forward.

I agree. It’s definitely the most generous group of people I’ve encountered.
