The following notices of death were printed on page 9 of the June 5, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News;

“FURLONG-June 4, 1894, JOHN FURLONG, aged 10 months. Funeral from parents’ residence, 23 Pearce-st., by carriages to Calvary.”

“GALLAGHER-At his residence, 281 Aberdeen-st., EMMET V., beloved son of Officer John J. and Maggie Gallagher (nee Reilly), aged 4 months. Funeral from late residence Wednesday, 10 a.m., by carriages to Calvary cemetery.”

“HULL-June 4, 1894, at his residence, 5163 Wabash-av., FERDINAND M., husband of Josephine Hull and father of Mrs. Clinton E. Partridge. Funeral at 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, by carriages to Oakwoods.”

“HIRSCH-The funeral of Mrs. FANNY HIRSCH will take place from residence of her son-in-law, S. M. Silverman, 3913 Grand-bd., Wednesday, afternoon, at 1 o’clock sharp, by carriages to Rose Hill.”

“PERRY-Tuesday, June 5, 3 a.m., LILLIAN A., wife of John H. Perry. Funeral Wednesday, 2 p.m., from Belden Avenue Baptist church to Rose Hill.”

“SMITH-June 4, 1894, PETER, beloved husband of Ellen Smith and father of Johnnie and Maggie Smith, aged 52 years, native of Roselee, County Fermenagh, Ireland. Funeral Wednesday, June 6, at 9:30 a.m., from his late residence, 139 N. Sangamon-st., to St. Stephen’s church, where high mass will be celebrated, thence by carriages to Calvary.”

“YUERS-LIZZIE YUERS-aged 26 years. Funeral Wednesday, June 6, at 1 p.m., from parents’ residence, 288 Blue Island-av., to Forest Home.”

  1. I love that even this long ago there was no “segregation” of religions in the obits. What do you think about race in obits? Do you have any idea how that was handled?
