Here’s another court case that was reported on the front page of the June 15, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News:

“Newman Case Drawing to a Close.

Harvey Newman was examined by the jury who are trying him for insanity this morning.

Mr. Newman explained to the jury his religious views and the various schemes which he has developed for the benefit of the Englewood poor. Mr. Newman also told the jury that a number of witnesses had testified that he was insane and had not told the truth.

Mr. Newman appeared especially aggressive toward Dr. Florence Hunt, who testified for the petitioner in the case. After the conclusion of the examination of Mr. Newman the arguments began.”

Is Mr. Newman in your family tree?
