“BURKE-At parents’ residence, 474 W. Indiana-st., LUKE C., son of James and Catherine Burke, aged 22 months 13 days. Funeral Tuesday morning, June 26, from above residence, by carriages to Calvary.”

“BALDWIN-At his residence, 309 Flournoy-st., June 23, SILAS D. BALDWIN, late colonel, 57th regiment, Illinois volunteers. Funeral at residence Monday, June 25, at 1 p.m. Bridgeport and New Haven (Conn.) papers copy.”

“BURGESS-JAMES, beloved son of James and Katie Burgess (nee Scanlon). Funeral from parents’ residence, 3612 Union-av., Tuesday, June 26, by carriages to Calvary.”

“DAVIES-Sunday, June 24, 1894, JAMES, son of Emma and the late Charles Davies, aged 24 years. Funeral from Rogerson and Son’s undertakers, 435 W. Madison-st., by carriages to cathedral corner Washington and Peoria-sts., thence to Rose Hill.”

My transcription above is exactly as the notices appeared on page 5 of the June 25, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News with the exception of quotation marks at the beginning and end of each obituary. Abbreviations, capitalizations and references to people, places and things are indicative of the era in which this information was published. When possible the deceased was also memorialized on Find A Grave.
