The following obituaries appeared on page 6 of the August 15, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News;

“MILLAR-Aug. 14, 1894, at the residence of his brother, James Millar, 6426 Stony Island-av., JOHN, beloved son of Catherine and the late William Millar, aged 31 years. Funeral at 10 a.m. Aug. 16, to St. Lawrence’s church, thence by carriages to Mount Olivet. Ottawa and Quebec papers please copy.”

“SANGER-At her mother’s residence, 591 Elston-av., Mrs. JANE, beloved mother of Eddie and Annie Sanger and sister of James, Charles, Thomas, Henry and Katie. Funeral Friday, 9:30, to Annunciation church, thence by C. & N.W. Ry. to Calvary.”

“ALLEN-At 677 Warren-av., Aug. 13, infant son of Frank H. and Louise Allen, aged 1 day.”

“FITZPATRICK-Aug. 13, 1894, at the residence of her daughter, 117 Sibley-st., Mrs. J. K. FITZPATRICK, mother of James K. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. D. Ward. Funeral Thursday, 9 o’clock, from 117 Sibley-st., to Holy Family church, where high mass will be celebrated, thence by carriages to Calvary cemetery.”

“ADLER-Aug. 14, at 225 Vine-st., NORMA, the beloved child of Fred and Lizzie Adler. Funeral Thursday, Aug. 16, at 10 o’clock to Waldheim.”

“BALL-Aug. 14, 9 p.m., CAPT. JAMES H. BALL, member of George H. Thomas post G.A.R., aged 61 years. Funeral Thursday, 3 p.m., from family residence, 207 Flournoy-st., by carriages to Rose Hill. Friends invited.”

“COLFORD-Aug. 15, FLORENCE NORA, dearly beloved child of Edward and Nellie Colford (nee Kissane), aged 5 years and 9 months. Funeral Thursday, Aug. 16, at 12 o’clock, by carriages to Calvary. Funeral private.”

“FLYNN-At parents’ residence, 3931 Hart-av., Brighton Park, JOHN J., son of John and Hannah Flynn (nee Collins), aged 22 years. Funeral Friday, Aug. 17, at 9:30, to St. Agnes’ church, thence by carriages to Mount Olivet.”

“FLANAGAN-Aug. 14, 1894, ELLEN, beloved wife of William Flanagan (nee Eagan) and mother of Mrs. T. Costello and William Flanagan, aged 60 years. Funeral Friday, Aug. 17, from her late residence, Halsted-st. and 37th-ct., at 9 a.m., to Nativity church, where requiem mass will be celebrated and thence by carriages to Calvary. “FRAZIER-JAMES J., beloved son of Austin and Anne Frazier (nee Flynn), aged 27 years and 4 months. Funeral from his late residence, 37 E. Huron-st., Thursday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m., to Holy Name cathedral, where high mass will be celebrated, thence by cars to Calvary cemetery via C. & N. W. R. R.”

“KANE-Aug. 14, THERESA, beloved daughter of Martin and Mary Kane (nee Schneider), aged 3 years and 6 months. Funeral Thursday, 9 a.m., from parents’ residence, 3034 Keeley-st., by carriages to Calvary.”

“MUELLER-At 1 p.m., Aug. 14, LAURA MAY, daughter of Frank Louis and Laura Mueller, aged 3 months. Funeral Thursday noon, from parents’ residence, 358 Ogden-av., to Graceland.”

“MOORE-At St. Luke’s hospital, Aug. 12, 1894, FRANK MOORE, aged 33 years. Funeral from residence [of] T. F. Jones, 4644 Bishop-st., Thursday, Aug. 10, 1 p.m., carriages to Oakwoods. Snowdrop lodge, O. S. St. G., please copy.”

“RAFTER-Aug. 13, 1894, MARY T., beloved daughter of Thomas Rafter, aged 22 years. Funeral from late residence, 638 39th-pl., Thursday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m., St. Elizabeth’s church, carriages to Mount Olivet. LaSalle (Ill.) papers copy.”

“RYAN-WILLIAM, beloved husband of Mary Ryan (nee Sullivan), at his residence, 354 W. 15th-st. Funeral notice hereafter.”

“TOBIASON-GESINA, beloved daughter of Nickles and Karen Tobiason, aged 21 years. Funeral from residence of parents, 222 N. Halsted-st., Thursday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m., by carriages to Graceland cemetery.”

My transcription above is exactly as the notices appeared on pages 6 and 7 of the August 15, 1894 issue of the Chicago Daily News with the exception of quotation marks at the beginning and end of each obituary. Abbreviations, capitalizations and references to people, places and things are indicative of the era in which this information was published. When possible, the deceased are also memorialized on Find A Grave.
